I love Palin’s shoes!
Ok let me re-clarify my stance on Obama. I am not real good at being put on the spot. My biggest reason for voting Barack is healthcare..
My father has Diabetes and is Insulin dependent. He works for the Port Authority of Allegney County and as you may know they will be going on Strike. Now lets not get into Port Authority and unions because that’ debate is for another place another time. Anyways his health insurance through the Authority covers all his medical needs and with the lockout he’s going to lose his coverage. And with the way that asshat Onorato is acting who knows how long they’ll be out..
Think about the 47 million Americans who have no healthcare. What do they do when they have life threatening like cancer? They’ give them chemo with no guarantee that it will get better. Getting a huge bill for your cancer treatment is adding insult to injury. In other cases the tax payers end up footing bill because some patients end up on some sort of public assistance whether it be welfare or social security medicaid, etc which brings me to my next point about healthcare…
Barack talks about America needing Universal Healthcare, I am not quite sure if that is the correct way to go about it. I think healthcare should remain privatized but with a little support from the Goverment. I think with some reform and new regulations such as not granting coverage for “pre -existing conditions” would be a good plan. He also about taxing employers who don’t provide coverage and using that tax money to supplement insurance companies so they can charge premiums based on families’s monthly incomes. The part of about taxing employers can be a bad things because the higher taxes may prompt higher prices for services and potential reduction in workforce.
Another reason I support Obama is his stance on Net neutrality. As you may know the internet has opened up a whole new medium of communication that is open and free. Telecom companies like Comcast want to Censor and filter the internet much like they censor and filter TV and radio. We simply cannot have that.
Another reason I support him is NAFTA and the fact that he is against it.
As you can see most of reasons are for domestic issues and right now I think thats more important than anything right now. Yes the enviroment, energy, and foreign policy is important but right now the economy and other domestic issues are on americans’ mind more than anything.
And I can appreciate your stance on the whole $250,000 issue, you should keep in mind that the median household income in the US is $50, 233. And Obama never necessarily said he would raise taxes on people in that income bracket, in fact it’s said that under his administration they will actually see lower taxes than they did in the 90s.
Dude, well said… I can appreciate your stance and reasoning for your support of Obama. But, I come from a country that already has Universal HealthCare… Although you are guaranteed healthcare, the time it takes to see a doctor can range in a couple of months, to a year, and sometimes beyond in rare circumstances. And unfortuantely Canada has only approx 30,000,000 people, 10% of the US population. It’s a nice idea, but not very practical for 300,000,000 people. I do agree that EVERYONE should have healthcare, I just want to keep the government out of it.
As for NAFTA.. the only reason I had the opportunity to enjoy your great country is because of NAFTA. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of education in the US there are not enough university educated professional to fullfill the need in this country. Without filling the jobs with qualified individuals the economy cannot flourish… Ok, maybe this is a bad time to make that point
I enjoyed your comment, it took a lot of time and effort, and I most certainly appreciate it!
Enjoy your long weekend!!!
Matt, don’t mislead people about Canada. Wait times are for surgeries, not to see a family doc. Yes, finding one of those is hard too, so people rely on clinics. Our system is broken not b/c it is universal, its b/c too many people that CAN change the system are NOT the ones having the problems. And yes, we have 10% of your population, but we also have 10% of your tax money.
And as for your friends NAFTA comment, try getting along without NAFTA. You import/export alot to Canada. We are your biggest supplier of oil and I can tell you there is great demand in China for that oil. The only reason we sell it to you is b/c its easier and more profitable. Remove those two and you may be heading down a slippery slope.
And Obama is not AGAINST NAFTA! He does not like the way NAFTA is structured now, and neither does Canada. We got screwed on beef and lumber in the past 5 years b/c of NAFTA. His big comment on it, at least what they reported in Canada, is that he’d tell us the new terms and we’d either accept them or he’d scrap it. I think he was a bit naive on the issue, as he is with other international issues. I do not think he’d actually do that once he sees the numbers and the repercussions.
